Prof. N R Kamath

Prof. N R Kamath, known for his remarkable achievements in the fields of plastics, paints, polymers & shellac, was also the first ever Head of Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay. Prof. N R Kamath completed his BSc (Hons.) degree, followed by BSc (Tech.) in Chemical Engineering from the Bombay University. He went on to complete his Post Graduate Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the University College, London. In the 7 years he spent at London Shellac Research Bureau, he went on to bring out 18 publications on the utilization of lac. He joined IIT-Bombay in 1958 as a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. He then went on it become it’s first HOD & also the Deputy Director of the Institute. He has served on several committees of the govt. & has been a recipient of several honours & awards. After retiring in 1974, he worked as an advisor to several industries. He even served as the President of IIChE during 1974-75. 

ChEA

Chemical Engineering Association (ChEA), established in 1965, aims at promoting awareness and knowledge about Chemical Engineering to the outside masses, as well as providing a forum for mutual interaction amongst students, both past and present, of the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay. About ChEQ

Initiated by IITB and UICT 25 years ago, the N.R.Kamath Memorial Chemical Engineering Quiz (CHEQ), surely has had a legacy of its own. The quiz restarted its course in the year of 2006 under the supervision of IIChE (Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers). The quiz has henceforth been held in various colleges across Mumbai and has seen wide-spread participation of students from Mumbai, Pune, Lonere, Nashik under the rolling trophy format. With many expectations and anticipations from the student and teaching faculty alike, we are glad to present you with the CHEQ-2010.
